Budget-Friendly Beach Getaways in Europe: Seeking Recommendations

Hello fellow travelers,

I'm planning a brief solo trip to enjoy some beach time before a busy academic year begins. I'm looking for affordable beach destinations in Europe, with a budget of around 7000-9000 SEK for accommodation (excluding flights), for 5-7 days. Here are some additional details and considerations.

  • Warm Weather: I’m aiming for a sunny beach destination.

  • Accommodation: Looking for 4-5 star hotels with amenities such as a pool and ideally a spa feature like a water blade cascade.

  • Inclusions: Breakfast included would be a plus.

Given that my local currency (SEK) is strong against several European currencies, I’m also considering places where my money might go further.

  • Hungarian Forint (HUF): 1 SEK = 34.67 HUF

  • Icelandic Krona (ISK): 1 SEK = 13.13 ISK

  • Russian Ruble (RUB): 1 SEK = 8.29 RUB

  • Czech Koruna (CZK): 1 SEK = 2.20 CZK

While Eurozone destinations are still an option, I am open to exploring these alternatives too.

Questions are:
1. Any suggestions for affordable beach towns or cities in the European region?

  1. Are there specific hotels that meet the criteria of being budget-friendly and having the amenities mentioned?

  2. Any additional advice for a solo traveler on a budget looking for a relaxing beach getaway?

Thank you in advance for your help!

The Czech Republic and Hungary dont have any good beached. Well, dont have ANY beaches. So those two are out. Montenegro has beautiful beaches at good prices and Monteegro is not in the Eurozone .... before anyone argues, they arent. Yes they use the Euro, but without permission. Budva is the most obvious city to think of, but there are others like Pertrovac and Canj and Sutomore and Bar and Ulcinj.

I have no idea what a stainless steel water blade cascade is, but there are plenty of 4 and a few 5 star hotels along the coast of Montenegro.

Hi, thanks for the suggestions about Montenegro! It sounds like a fantastic destination with beautiful beaches and good hotel options. Unfortunately, flights from Stockholm to Tivat are quite expensive at the moment. A quick search showed that the cheapest round-trip tickets are around 2,838 SEK with one stop, and the prices go up quickly with more layovers and different airlines. It's really a shame because Montenegro seems like a great choice. Do you have any other recommendations for beach destinations that might be more cost-effective to reach from Sweden, Stockholm? Thanks again for your help!

Take a look at seat61.com to see where you can connect by rail to your destination and check for affordable flights to that place, rather than trying to fly from Stockholm. Here is the information for getting from London to Bar in Montenegro, which concludes with a train from Belgrade or a ferry from Bari, Italy, to Dubrovnik and a bus:

I am not a beach person and have rarely even looked at a European beach, so I have no first-hand recommendation for you. I wonder about Albania or Turkey, though. Are there budget-airline flights to to coastal cities in those countries? Or what about Morocco (Essouaria, maybe?).

Romania and Bulgaria might be options, but I think at one time the Bulgarian beaches were down-market destinations. I don't know anything about their market positioning now.

I don't think Iceland meets the warm-weather requirement, does it? And exchange rate aside, I've always heard Iceland is very expensive.

Podgorica is fairly well served by discount airlines, just not from Sweden. You might have to stop in an intermediate city. The train from Sweden.... way too long for me.

Bulgaria and Albania are becoming very popular for budget beach breaks. If you don’t fancy that then Spain and Portugal are going to be the cheapest options in Western Europe.
