My mom is in Rome getting on cruise tomorrow am. Her cpap machine broke and we don't know how to get a new one. Anybody know what to do

It's already the middle of the night in Rome, so it looks like her only choices are to forget the cruise, or to board and seek the advice of the cruise ship's medical staff. If it's a major cruise line, they should have sufficient medical resources to help her.

My first question is how bad is her sleep apnea? I use a CPAP, but am just fine without one for a week or two. They have CPAP's over there. Probably without a prescription. She should find an apothecary store to inquire on who sells them in Rome. Hopefully the cruise won't leave until late afternoon.
Another option would be to contact the cruise line to see if they have any resources to get her another.

Andrea, how upsetting for you all. I would get up in the morning and ask the desk clerk to help you find a drugstore or medical supply store and if you have the funds , buy a new machine. Most cruises do not leave in am, so hoping this one also doesn't leave till later in afternoon. If your moms sleep apnea is not too bad she likely may survive without for a week, but the stress of not having it may make her holiday too unpleasant for her so I would work all morning trying to track one down. If the desk clerk can't or won't help I would ask him to at least suggest a nearby medical clinic that you can go to , see the doctor there, he will know where she can get a replacement perhaps. Good luck..I really hope it all works out for you guys..

Andrea I sent you a private message but will say it here too in case you don't see the PM. Go on tripadivsor.com Rome forums,, they have some LOCALS and expats who post there that will likely be alot more helpful with this then us tourists. .

These things are hard to find overseas (often only through doctor's offices, hospital clinics, and private non-profits), but it also has to be set to her prescription. If you/her doctor/her supplier could find a supplier in one of her ports who could coordinate with her doctor and supplier back home, she might be able to have a new one waiting for her when she docks in one of her ports. However, you should start with her doctor and US supplier to see what can be done. Even "overnighting" a new one to one of her ports will take a week, but that mmight be what has to be done if she can't function well without it.
