British Airways Business Class Dietary Menu Options - A First World Problem

As I stated in the title, this is a FIRST WORLD PROBLEM. However, after covid and all the travel restrictions, it is delightful to have a trivial matter to ponder.

I am semi-vegetarian, I guess one would call it. I don't eat beef, pork, lamb, etc- pretty much no four-legged animals. I do eat chicken and dairy products. I don't fancy much seafood. In the past, my non-beef, non-seafood option in BC has been a very rich pasta dish. I looked at the BA dropdown menu options, about a dozen, and I have no idea what they all mean in terms of what specific food choices could be. What have you all experienced, and what would you recommend?

I appreciate any attention to this non-earth-shattering query.

Safe travels.

I had a nIce (as nice as airline food gets) vegetarian Thai curry on my BA flight in March. That was in premium Economy, so I have to believe business class has some decent options.

I used to get the Asian Vegetarian on BA in business and it was fine. I also one time just ordered the vegetarian option and it was also fine. Not sure now with Covid but don't expect to be wowed-it's airline food and I think out of the special meals the Asian vegetarian has the best taste.

I have always ordered Asian vegetarian meals, as they seem to be lighter and easier to digest.
The other reason...very selfish...is that you get served first, and can get to the bathroom afterward before the majority does, and it's still clean; then get ready for settling in/sleep quicker.
I am always in an aisle seat, so can get up easily after eating.

Another vote for Asian Vegetarian, my regular request. (And I’m an omnivore.)

From my recollection of the dining options on BA the general options tend to be vegetarian, kosher, halal, lactose free and gluten free. The quality can be a bit hit or miss depending on your departure destination when the catering services are provided by the airport rather than the airline. My wife who is gluten free has had variable experiences with BA catering ranging from well thought out and good quality food to a trayfull of fruit.

Whenever I've dined in business or first there are several choices on the standard menu, almost always one dish is vegetarian. If you find there's nothing on the menu that is suitable you can ask the crew what else they have that will be.

I've usually chosen Asian vegetarian - in coach. I love Indian food and I'm fine with spicy, so I've had some pretty good meals. Indian food does lend itself to reheating. Though sometimes the breakfast can be a little weird for westerners.

I just don't eat the plane food. I bring something of my own and eat it just after take-off. Then I can try to go to sleep earlier.

I hate the plane food, and i hate eating like piggies at a trough. I guess that is not the same thing as having dinner in business class though. But to my mind all of the options are equally bad.

Pat I have to say the food was much improved on BA business class this trip (just returned) vs the trip back from Switzerland last Fall. I am somewhat similar to you on diet, had the vegetarian pasta over and back. One nice thing I like is they are continuing to do “all at once” which means no long drawn out service like in the old days. Everything comes on the tray at once. And they did have the pantry open with various items after service. Once before I have had the Asian vegetarian but sleeping right after that lightly spicy gave me heartburn so haven’t done since because they have a vegetarian on the main menu now. Leaving LHR this time my nephew had the fish pie (fish on plane I never do) but he liked it.

Go for Asian Veg or Hindu Veg [both include milk products). If you choose Vegan you will miss out on good desserts! Also feel free to ask for items in other menus - they often have extra courses leftover and will give it to you

Dining in business of first is miles apart from economy. It's actually become very good and I've had some excellent meals. One of the best was in first class BA to Kuala Lumpur, the large table laid out with a cloth and proper cutlery, perfect wine pairing and excellent food considering the limitations. It's something I look forward to and certainly beats bringing a tired sandwich from Pret to eat.

BA business class and even premium economy food isn't bad and better than most economy US carriers. I will say the best meal I ever was in economy on a long haul Turkish Airlines flight.

That said, I'm old enough to remember as a child always getting an airline meal when traveling in the US. My sister and I used to collect the playing cards and pilot wings the FAs used to give out.
