Bringing glass in carry on baggage

Hi,
We are bringing a set of 3 glass vases from the U.S. to Switzerland to be used in a wedding ceremony. Can they be put in carry on luggage or should I check them? They are well packed.

I would carry them on. I wouldn't trust them to make it in one piece if you checked them. If they are crystal or part crystal TSA will make you unwrap them since it will show all black on the xray machines. Just be prepared to unwrap them if necessary.

Hi Jen,
Iceland baggage restrictions say that you can't carry on: "Objects with a sharp point or sharp edge capable of being used to cause serious injury." That's what made me wonder.

They let you carry on booze bottles from the duty free shop, therefore .......

We all know there's a reasonable probability they won't survive checked baggage.
Yes, I know, some people have gotten lucky. I'm talking probabilities here.

You are allowed to carry on glass vases. I carried on wine glasses.

The rule about sharp points and edges refers to knives, scissors, etc., not glass vases.

Just returned from Scotland with a few bottles of beer and cider, and some homemade preserves, all in glass containers, and they survived riding in our checked bags. We used some bubble wrap and also padded them in our clothes. Maybe packing socks or some other soft things inside to keep them from being completely hollow might help support the vases, as well as make up for some of the space they'd take up in your suitcase. Congrats to the couple!
