I would like to bring my favorite protein bars and protein powder with me for our best of Europe 21 day tour. Does anyone know if there are any restrictions on these types of items? Thanks! Tammy
If it is in your luggage and you walk through the "Nothing to Declare" door no one is going to see it or care. You do not see or talk with a customs agent. Returning to the US is a different matter.
Tammy, There shouldn't be any problems with the protein bars, as they're a processed and package product. I usually carry some snack bars with me for "emergencies", and have never been questioned about them. The protein powder also shouldn't be a problem, however the regulations will vary between countries and some supplements may be allowed and others not. I doubt that you'd have a problem. BTW, you may want to delete your duplicate Thread on this topic so that you can keep all replies in the same place. Cheers!
hi, most of the times, sealed packaged foods are okay. if you your protien powder is in loose form, they may call you on it. If you can get them in sealed Original Manufacture packaging, it maybe better. happy trails.
I've brought both with me on several occassions (Ireland, Italy, France, Switzerland, Netherlands), with no questions asked, although there's always the possibility of a particularly rigorous/suspicious agent. Just keep the power in it's origina container.
My daughter sends me a list of foods to bring over to London everytime we visit. I have brought peanut butter, chips, pretzels, cookies, boxes of cake or bar mix, etc. These items are packed in carry on as well as checked luggage. I have never had an issue. I also use a medication that is powder and have never been questioned on it even though it is in a small plastic bag and unmarked.
Likewise, she brings me my favorite UK treats when she comes to the States and has had no problem.
About the only food items you aren't supposed to bring into Europe would be meat products and fresh produce. Check the Consulate websites for each country to see what is forbidden. That said, no one checks your luggage anyway. Whether it is in the original container or a baggie is not going to matter.
Dairy products also have restrictions upon them. You don't say for example if the protein powder is whey-based - this kind will most likely be seized if you are caught trying to bring them in.
I did this last year and had no problems. I'm a WLS post-op and needed to ensure I got enough protein in while gone. I brought Click Protein packets and a blender bottle with me and packed them in my checked luggage, no issues at all. We're leaving Friday and I have my protein packets again as well as protein bars this year.
