To add, this "heat wave from hell" is on its way to Spain from North Africa, with temps up to 45c (112 f). It will last from this Wednesday to Sunday and will effect especially the centre of the country, from south in Sevilla to north in Zaragoza. If you are traveling in that general area during this time, especially on Thursday or Friday, god have mercy on your souls!

I was in the UK week before last and traipsed around in 60 degree temps and pissing rain. I felt like I had visited the UK properly this time, unlike last year when it was 80 and sunny every day!
It's 90 and sunny at home, if I want that I'll stay put. :D

I was reading about these predicted temps just this morning. I am really glad I was there a year ago when their heatwave was more like summer in the midwest. The predicted temps sound really dangerous, especially as many places don't have AC.

Berlin is looking forward to 38-39c (100-102f) on Wednesday, same for Frankfurt.

FastEddie - that was so 10 years ago. They are perfectly appropriate almost everywhere now.

When the temps are over 100 F, I don't think shorts are going to make a whole heck of a lot of difference. When I was in Budapest a few years ago it was 100 for 3 days out of the 6. It was hot but if you use good judgement and take steps to deal with the heat you'll survive. You may have to curtail or abandon plans for some outdoor sightseeing for the better part of the day but if that's what it takes you have to do it. Don't go anywhere without a supply of water, wear a hat if you're out in the sun, and take frequent rest breaks (preferably in an air conditioned bar, restaurant, or hotel room).

Everyone is in shorts right now, and sandals, and I think it does make a difference.

The good news is it's a little less humid than usual, especially yesterday.

Today I have to co-host a birthday party because I have the shady patio and the actual host decided it couldn't take place in her flat but from tomorrow on you'll either find me in the pool or swimming illegally in the Neckar river!

No Europe for me this week, thankfully. But I get to go to South Texas where it will be nearly 100F with 100% humidity and a heat index of 115. Glad I will spend most of my time in a nice air conditioned office building. Oh, and no shorts for me. :-)

The temperature of 100F is like being in Sacramento or Bakersfield, unlike Sacramento I've not been to in years, every day in the summer, expect it to be anywhere from 95-106F

With that expected temperature my Pension in Berlin offers no A/C

FastEddie, who cares about being gauche when it's hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk? I do draw the line at wearing shorts to church.

Celeste, yes stay home and go to one of SC's beautiful beaches. Going there next week.

UK temperatures have been several degrees below average for nearly all of May and June so far, plus June has already seen 150%+ of rain over much of England so this year wasn't typical either. It ought to be 80+F at the end of the week though, catching the tail end of the plume.

I suspect FastEddie forgot to give an irony alert.

I've been watching the BBC and the Saharan weather that has blown north to Europe. At least the UK and Benelux seem to be spared. Another reason to avoid traveling to much of Europe in the summer -- yikes. No A/C in public transport or even in many of the small hotels/B&Bs. Yikes.

We've been spared the hot & vicious weather in NYC. It's been cooler than usual....knock on wood!

Hahahaha! I think so too, Stan!
Been a cool June here in MN but we'll see mid 90's with tropical dew points by the weekend.
There's beer for that. 🍺

Don't worry, in another four months or so you'll be back to winter storms! ; )

Your comment inspired me to read about Minnesota's climate on Wikipedia (I'm British, we're obsessed with the weather) and it made for quite interesting reading, if you like that stuff.
