My wife and I were planning a trip to Scotland and Ireland and then later a trip to Europe for a river cruise but we are very concerned about the strong potential for economic and travel crises for the next few years because of the strong possibility of the UK leaving the European Union WITHOUT an agreement. Is anyone else concerned about this possibility?
No not worried.
As noted in the last Brexit topic nobody can say what will happen. But I wouldn't cancel any trips to Britain or Europe. I think American/Canadian travelers will be fine. British might have to show more ID but all in all it should be fine.
Caveat: I'm doubting the UK will ever leave in the next few years. Boris or no Boris.
Is anyone else concerned about this possibility?
I am not
The principal problem related to Brexit is for EU citizens/businesses in the UK, and UK citizens/businesses in the EU. As long as you don't get in a ferry/train line with trucks or cars going back and forth across the Channel you will be fine. The economic crisis may work to your advantage since the pound fell dramatically against the dollar when the Brexit referendum passed, and it could do so again.
Not concerned. Whole EU is waiting that this finally will happen. Nobody is saying this open but this is what a lot of people think. It does not make sense if one sees a partnership as a membership only - and that from the beginning.
EU is fully prepared for that and stock prices already have that included.
Travel-wise it will have no impact for arrival / departure by flight because UK is no Schengen member - Brexit from EU does not matter. Travel Ireland / North-Ireland (UK) will heavily be impacted because a new border will be enforced. New ferry line from Ireland to France is already established.
Economically it will be a desaster for UK and really thousands of Brexit refugees apply for a citizenship in another EU country. City of Berlin only has over 10k applications. Strange events when 100-200 people in a room (all Britains) receive their citizenship and singing Germany's anthem.
Prices for food (except fish) will raise immediately also for chips - not only on a real base. Prices for hotels hard to forecast because domestic tourism will increase. Health services are expected to implode because the whole NHS is based on a high ratio of EU workers.
I had a trip to the U.K. planned for the last Brexit deadline. I didn’t worry about it, went, and had a great time. You should go ahead and take your trip. There is little value to trying to predict this process.
Just go and have a good time. No one can predict the outcome. And ignore posters from the EU predicting doom and gloom.
I was talking to a man near Dublin in May. He grew up near the border and recalls being physically searched regularly by British police when going to Belfast to catch a ferry.
Today, the Northern Irish side isn't the issue. Irish are worried the EU will force them to stop traffic coming from UK. No one wants that but the fear is they won't have a choice.
nobody knows. Anybody predicting the future needs a well polished crystal ball
