Brexit- Enter London on 11/5 ?

Hello. After a RS tour, I will stay in Europe several more weeks and then fly from Paris to London on November 5th to catch a flight home to the US. I just read an article about ending open borders as of October 31. Will this affect/apply to me? If so, will the two airlines assist me without having to pay for totally new flight home from Paris? Thank you.

I expect, at worst, it will be like coming into London from the U.S. Right now you have a declare and nothing to declare option, then go get your passport stamped. At best, they may reach an agreement that makes it closer to current travel.

Why would this affect your flights? You fly into London, clear passport control and perhaps customs and then fly out. Plus the usual security checks.

Open borders refers to the free movement of Brits and Europeans in the EU and doesn’t have anything to do with visiting Americans, Australians etc. It shouldn’t affect you.

Presumably you are a US citizen?

Processing for US citizens will not change. What may happen is everyone has to go through the same process, adding many more folks to the line you will be in. ( If Brexit happens)

If you are on separate tickets, you will get minimal or no help from the the airlines to transit through London. How much time do you have between flights?

"Open Borders" means EU citizens have the right to live and work in any EU country without restriction, no visas needed, no 90-day limit.
It is nothing to do with the actual mechanics of crossing borders. Nothing to do with transport options.

Maybe we should have a big sign at the front of this Forum:

Brexit will make no difference to tourists from outside Europe.

Probably. Or possibly. Or maybe. Nobody knows.

And will it happen? Nobody knows. How will it happen? Nobody knows. When will it happen, if it does happen? Nobody knows.

It probably won't cause any problems if you are a US passport holder and you are transferring in a UK airport. The potential problems are if you are travelling by ferry or train from Europe.
