breakfast options in Luxembourg City

My wife and I will be staying 2 nights at Le place d'Armes hotel in Luxembourg city. Their breakfast fee is over 20 euros person. Does anybody have an alternative place for breakfast close to this hotel? Thanks folks

Richard,

That does seem to be a very steep charge for breakfast, but probably not unusual for a five star hotel. I've never been to Luxembourg City, but the maps show a McDonald's not too far from your hotel at Rue des Capucins & Place L' Armes. Their breakfast items may be different than in the U.S., but I'm sure the prices will be a lot less than what the hotel is charging. Although they may be "reluctant" to offer suggestions, you could also ask the front desk staff for good local restaurants or just wander around until you find something.

Of course the other option would be to book a different hotel that has more reasonable rates for breakfast. Check your local Library for guidebooks that cover Luxembourg, and there should be good hotel suggestions there.

I am very happy to be proven wrong, but I have never found a McDonalds in the entire country of Luxembourg - certainly not that one up by the palace - that is open early for breakfast.

They vary a bit but most open around 11am.

Same for the Quick next door.

Oh well, it seemed like a good suggestion at the time. I didn't realize that the McD's in Luxembourg had such limited hours, compared to the same restaurants other places. It looks like the best possibility will be to just ask the hotel staff for recommendations or try to find something on your own.

Good luck and happy travels!

Now that I'm back from a few days away I have had time to look in detail. There are now 3 McDonalds in the country of Luxembourg which open early enough for breakfast, but only one of those is not on a motorway rest area. The other two are on the Autoroutes towards France.

The McDonalds at Place d'Armes doesn't open until 10am.

There is one at the station (Gare) which now opens at 7. It has bus service from nearby Place d'Armes.

Luxembourg with fast food for breakfast. Who'd have thought it? Must be the second decade of the 21st Century.

Wonder what the Grand Duke has to say?

I'll be there is a couple of weeks and will scout around.

I was going to stay at the Le Place d'Armes but decided to stay a couple of blocks away at the Simoncini. Much cheaper and looks good. Breakfast included.
