I'm planning a trip to Frances, Italy and UK, should I book hostels ahead of time since it is the high season or can I book as I go?

Beth, As you'll be travelling in "peak season", I'd suggest pre-booking Hostels if possible. I always pre-book accommodations, as I don't like wandering around a new city with a heavy Backpack looking for a place to sleep. Good luck and happy travels!

I would agree - book ahead if possible. Since you are really only three weeks away from departure, don't be surprised if your first choice is booked. Just keep looking.

Given your dates I would book ahead of time. If you are worried about being locked into things look for places with liberal cancellation policies. Then if you want to change plans you can without forfeiting a huge deposit.
