I have found this Helpline less than useful for trip reports. Having just returned from our second road trip in as many months, and wishing to perpetuate our memories for ourselves and the gang here, my wife and I would like to start using good blogging software. Any ideas? Any software or cloudware that you have been particularly happy with, or alternatively found did not perform well? Thanks
I started a couple of blogs on Blogger.com. I like the website because it's easy to post entries and pictures, especially for a technophobe like me who doesn't even have a smartphone.
Blogger.com is good - so is TypePad. Both have the option to blog for free and have nicely designed templates that you can customize with a simple WYSIWYG interface. If you're more interested in sharing content and posting pictures and travel tips than you are in building out a blog with lots of plug-ins and add-ons and whatnot, either of those sites (the free option) should work well for you.
I like blogspot.com. It is easy to use, even for a non-techi person like myself. Photos upload easy, they have a good vaiety of templates, easy to edit, and you can insert widgets and extras to have little extra touches. It is free of course.
http://wordpress.org/ Easy peasy.
I use blogspot.com and I like it. I did one for our 2010 trip but made the mistake of using 2010 in the address,... http://www.lee-reid2010.blogspot.com/ so I decided to start a different one for all travel after that. This one is ongoing; http://lee-reidfamilytravels.blogspot.com/
Thanks all, this is great. I will have a look at all of them. I'm going to try googling some blogs written by them.
My techie husband did an exhaustive search and feature comparison of blog sites (while I planned the rest of the trip ;)). His choice was Posterous.com. It was simple and we blogged each day, added photos and had quite a following at home. We enjoyed the blogging and the site worked reliably
Hello Nigel. I request that you inform us, here at the Traveler's Helpline, of the internet website that you choose to use for blogging.
I certainly agree, Ron, and will. I haven't yet decided.
Hi Nigel! I haven't used it, but I know that Ken uses www.travelpod.com for his travel blogs. He PM'ed me one day and mentioned: "after an exhaustive search, he chose travelpod for what it offered to him." Good Luck!
