My husband and I are travelling to Budapest in late May which happens to coincide with his 31st birthday. We don't get a ton of time to spend together, so I want to make sure that we celebrate his birthday by doing something special! Does any one have a suggestion of a cool Budapest-based activity that we can do (other than eat?).
The Szechny baths will provide you with a great way to spend a birthday. I went the first time with a RS guide during our "own time" with two others and we had a blast. The following year I took my parents (in their 70s) and my brother (early 40s) they were very skeptical but indulged me. As with the first time, everyone was relaxed, smiling, happy and we were sad when we had to leave. This is a bath where the locals go. I am not a person who feels comfortable in public in a swim suit but I did not feel self conscious. I was too busy enjoying the relaxing wonderful baths. On both trips myself and my fellow travelers had so much fun we were laughing out loud. My family remembers the baths as a standout memory.
Diane beat me to it - but I second her great idea......it's unique to very few places and Budapest has one of the best,
