Biking in Austria - prefer mostly downhill... :)

Is there any where in Austria when you can take a lift up a mountain and bike down it thru villages? I want a leisurely downhill descent, not looking for any sort of high speed descent.

Lots of the winter ski areas have their lifts open during summer for hiking and biking. You'd have to look at individual sites, I don't know of a single site that deals with biking but I'm sure there is. Some nice Alps towns to look at that I know do a healthy summer business are: Lech, Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis, Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Zell am See, Kitzbuhel.

Jay we just finished a week long bike tour of Lake Constance a few weeks ago. While in Bregenz Austria we did ride the cable car up, and bike down the mountain. I'm not sure I would consider that a leisurely downhill descent, but it wasn't high speed either. Took us about 30 mins. Are you thinking about 1 day biking? or several days? The danube is a great place for level biking. We loved biking around lake constance.

I would recommend biking along the Danube, which is covered in Rick's guides. You won't be going downhill much, maybe a little, but on the flip side, there's no uphill! It's pretty much all flat and scenic - well worth it.

I second Stuart's suggestion. We did the bike ride from Melk as a day trip from Vienna. We rode along the northern bank of the river and it was really lovely. There was very little uphill; the worst was getting up to the bridge to cross the river from where we picked up the bikes in Melk on the southern bank. You bike through little villages and vineyards. We parked the bikes several times to take side hikes or look at the villages more closely. It was a lovely day. I highly recommend it.
