Best women's boots?

Hi! I'm going to Western Europe for the first time in October, and I'll be backpacking for 6 weeks. I need to find a good pair of boots, since it will be cold, and they need to be comfortable since I'll be doing ALOT of walking for the 6 weeks (and I'm also doing some hiking in the Cinque Terre). Any suggestions on comfortable boots or a good brand? I would also like them to be fashionable (I'm 24) and waterproof or water resistant. I've been looking at Ecco, or NAOT, but I wear a size 11 in women's, so I'm having a hard time. Any help or advice would be much appreciated!!

The brand you chose should be whatever fits YOUR foot the best. I sympathize because I also wear a size 11 and very often sales people look at you like you have two heads when you request that size. My saviors are Nordstrom, Zappos.com, and Endless.com. All three have free shipping and free return shipping. Order lots and send what you don't want back!

Check out Keens. I've worn both the Ambler and Presidio on European trips. They come in your size.

Except in the far north and the high Alps, October and early November aren't particularly cold. I wouldn't recommend using a boot that's intended for cold weather. Your feet will likely become too warm and sweat excessively. On a long trip, this can cause significant problems. If the weather does become unseasonably cold, it would be better to wear a pair or two of warm wool socks.

You'll have to try multiple brands to see what works best for your foot shape & size since there is no one brand that will work for everyone. I chose Merrell for boots and have several pair (one for summer hiking that's more breathable and another for Fall/Winter for wet, muddy or snowy trails and walking). They sell women's boots in your size, but you'll still need to try them on or at least try to order them someplace with free returns shipping in case you get them and you need to send them back. I have some Keen sandals and shoes, but have never tried their boots. While neither brand is very inexpensive, they both make a quality product.

Tom states that it isn't that cold in October, but I think that everyone feels cold differently. Since you live in Florida, I think it will feel colder to you than it would to someone from a cooler climate. If you have a Nordstrom's near you I would go there. They have an excellent return policy, even if you have worn the shoes/boots outside. I think it's best to shop later in the day when your feet aren't so 'fresh' and see how they feel. Whatever you buy, walk a lot in them a see if they still feel fine.

My absolute favs and def travellers with me on my vacations are Blundstones...they are unisex, so sizing isn't a problem...I have the original style, but they come in a chisel toe which is a little dressier, but they aren't a high fashion boot...they are low heel, pull on, mine have never leaked, and I usully wear them all winter (with a heavier sock) and have also worn them in the Fall and Spring. Look great with jeans, khakis, cargos...even shorts...lol...(and Naots are my fav sandal - I have a few of their clogs, but have never tried the boots).

Look at some of the walking/hiking shoes and boots on L.L.Bean.com.
