Best travel insurance when traveling with kids?

Sorry if this has been answered a lot and I just can't find it. Going on RS tour with kids. Need to get the insurance. Kids under 18. Best options? Also how do you decide how much the trip is when you haven't booked your before and after part yet?
thanks

Only buy the coverage you need (compare policies at www.insuremytrip.com). You don't need to cover the whole cost of your trip, just the parts that are nonrefundable if you have to cancel (like the cost of your tour, but not the plane tickets, since they can usually be used at a different date). And unless you have trip cancelation insurance, the cost of the trip doesn't matter anyway. DO get additional health insurance and medical evacuation coverage. Even if your employer's health insurance covers you abroad, you generally won't have enough med evac coverage.

I would recommend going to insuremytrip.com or to one of the insurers, such as Travelex. You can compare different companies and policies and work up a quote all online. As far as how much coverage to buy, just estimate the total cost per person based on what you know. Insurance is offered in increments of $500, so it doesn't have to be perfect. There are a few things you'll learn about, such as a the pre-existing condition look-back period or the fact that cancel for any reason actually has some restrictions. Just go with a reputable company whose policies are underwritten by a major insurer you've heard of. For example, Travelex policies are underwritten by Nationwide. BTW, there's no hurry to buy right now if you haven't finalized your trip planning/purchases yet. Many of these policies can be purchased right up until day of departure. Also, I think some policies cover a kid for free for each paid, covered adult on the policy. Just pay attention to the details. Good luck!

Hi LA, I recently bought a US Fire Gold policy on a new site: www.tripinsurance.com. They have a special deal to sell policies at "consumer direct prices". I saved $123 off similar policies from other comparison sites. I have been telling all my friends about this site because I really liked their plans and how easy the site was to use. I have found that when I take my grandkids, they are pretty inexpensive to insure. They stay in our room, so the only non-refundable part that I generally have is their lower cruise cost and airfare. I worry more about having to cancel or having a travel delay because one of the kids could get sick. Many plans you can get today include 24 hour concierge services for booking restaurants, activities, and changing reservations. I have used this in the past and it is nice when you have kids, to offload the arrangements on a service and get a message when they have an activity set up. All the policies I looked at on www.tripinsurance.com have a 24 hour concierge service.
