Best travel days of the week?

I'm planning a trip to France with a couple of friends in late Sep/early Oct. Any suggestions on what day(s) of the week we should schedule departure/arrival?

Do you mean for the cheapest plane tickets? I think the cheapest travel days are typically Tuesdays and Wednesdays. But that is not a hard and fast rule. I don't think there would be a significant difference in your travel experience if you arrived on a Friday versus a Tuesday. Other things to consider- if there are any festivals the time of year you are traveling that will raise ticket prices or make hotels more expensive. I don't know France that well but that is something you can easily look up. You didn't mention where in France you are going. Hotels are more expensive on the weekends so avoiding big cities on the weekends can help save money too. Is that the type of information you are looking for?

I use matrix airfare search to identify best travel days. http://matrix.itasoftware.com/
Week ends can be less expensive for cities like Paris with a large amount of business/convention traffic in the fall on weekdays. Paris will have a big fashion week sometime in September. That would suck up a lot of hotels rooms.

Scott,

you can plug n chug days of arrival/departure and see how the numbers change.

some airlines will show you a fee matrix some done.

according to a recent article, Tuesday/Wednesdays and sometime Saturdays are the best. but again, plug n chug.

happy trails.

Today's (5/4) New York Times Travel section has an article that would be helpful in your planning. I only wish I was computer literate enough as to be able to put a code line here so that you could click right thru to it like so many folks here do. Google it if need be..
