Best Train Route - Salzburg to Strasbourg

What is the fastest (with least transfers) that I can take to get from Salzburg to Strasbourg France?

Am I correct that I would train to Munich first, then to Stuttgart and from there is there a direct to Strasbourg?
I seem to be really confused that every country I'm going to does their public transport on different websites and I try to use Google but sometimes the routes and times seem way off.

Any help would be appreciated.

For Germany, use the Deutche Bahn website, since they run the German trains. https://int.bahn.de/en

You can book this as a single ticket, Salzburg to Strasbourg, with 2 -3 connections and variable prices depending on date and time of day.

The fastest, and with only a single connection appears to be a Westbahn train from Salzburg to Stuttgart connecting to an ICE to Strasbourg. 5 hour and 35 minutes with a 10:39 am departure.

Did you know you can see all your options on the website rome2rio? They give approximate costs and also a "best" option.
(Go directly to the vendor website to book though)

I have also heard nothing very good about Rome2 Rio. Consensus on this forum seems to be that they are too often inaccurate about schedules and pricing. I would recommend the individual country's websites.

Don't go by bus, and don't mix operators. Busses are slow, uncomfortable, and often drop you outside the centre.
And if you combine Westbahn with DB you will be out of luck if you miss your connection.

Just book this with DB. There are a few options with only one change.

To defend Rome2Rio, I use them to get a generalization of what travel options are available and to find out who is operating the chosen transportation option. I think some of the errors in pricing and connections come from the fact that - unless you change the dates - R2R uses today's time and day to estimate. As I recommended, go to that company's website to get correct information and to buy tickets.

I use the Trainline app for train travel between European countries. It will present different options and indicate the fastest and cheapest routes. You can buy tickets on the app, too.

Great to know that this route "Salzburg to Strasbourg " and vice versa is part of the recently introduced night train Paris Est to Wien Hbf route.

Dep and arr times on either end are very doable. Inquiring in Wien Westbahnhof I was given some very valuable info for future night route planning ...very helpful staff.

Since the departures from either city take place 3 times a week, Paris to Vienna and vice versa, more planning is needed to get the night route you want.

Another very doable night option.
