This article surprised me:When should I book a flight to get the best price?
Unfortunately, many choice accommodations should best be secured 60+ days in advance.
I agree with Bill
Yes, a conundrum. I have been know to reserve lodging 10 months out. :-) But we all know there are people who start looking for a place to stay two or three weeks before they fly.
That article is in a UK newspaper talking about flights between the UK and continental Europe. It is not relevant to fares for flights between North America and Europe, which most people here care about.
A recent article in the WSJ found tht the lowest fares for US to Europe travel appear around 171 days out. At two months out, they take a dramatic upswing ---see the graph.
Domestic US fares, OTOH, are lowest around the 50- to 60- day mark.
So it is important to distinguish.
Good point Lola. I had not thought about the UK perspective. I'll have to look for the WSJ article.
