We drove from Naples Airport to Mongrassano Calabria and back last week. We had good luck with Waze for GPS when driving.

Google Maps was pretty good when we were walking around towns but was more difficult for the navigator to use while driving. We got lost a lot walking but it was more navigator error than app and we were offline most of the walking time.
My phone is a 6s if that helps.

Hi, Joanne,
I’ve used a combination of Viamichelin (download the app) and google maps. Viamichelin will also give you toll charges.

I use my own GPS to get me to the towns, hotels, and parking, and use Google maps downloaded to my phone for those little, out of the way places not in my GPS. As a backup, I have a paper map.

One thing that helps with navigation while walking, more than you might think, is having a small, simple compass. Or you can get the app on your cell. With that, when you come out of a subway or train station, and your guidebook or map says "walk north", you'll know which way north is. The kind of compass I'm talking about is small, cheap, and conveniently carried in your pocket, bag or purse.

I have all three apps in my iPhone. Too much junk to carry with he GPS. We're on a budget and doing all of it on our own. Have paper maps but doubt if I've ever looking at one for many years. Never are updated and do not show problem areas. Thanks to all for your input!

In France and Netherlands, WAZE works best for me for driving and Google maps for walking.
