Best scenic route by train, or fly, from Geneva Switzerland area to Almalfi Coast?

Does it make more sense time wise to fly from the Geneva area to the Almalfi coast? If by train what is the best and most scenic route and the approx time? We could stop along the way if worth to build in a day or two. Lugano Lake for example would be nice!

Here is our draft itinerary. We will be traveling in Sept 2025:

Arrive in Geneva: 4 nights explore area/
Amalfi Coast - Italy: 7 nights
/ fly to Prague: 3 nights/
fly to Budapest: 3 nights
/train to Vienna: 3 nights/depart to the US.
= approx 21 nights.

Geneva does not make a good base for exploring Switzerland, as it is as far away from the rest of Switzerland as it is possible to get...

So maybe just first move to eg. Luzern, and make that your base. (In which case flying to Zurich is also a better option).

Going to Amalfi by train there is no real scenic route. Trains are to move people around, not to please tourist. That some routes in Switzerland are scenic is not intentional. Getting to the Amalfi coast will take you a day no matter which way you travel. You can fly to Napels, or take a train to Salerno and a boat from there. The latter would be my choice if I was doing this trip.

I would fly an open jaw to Rome/Amalfi Coast.

Fly from Rome to Budapest.

Train to Vienna from Budapest.

Train to Prague from Vienna.

Fly from Vienna to Geneva or Zurich and explore the areas around either of these cities, but I would not base in either Zurich or Geneva. Either Luzern or Montreux.

I'm with Wengen, Geneva was one of the best places to live I've ever visited, but there are much better tourist base areas in Switzerland.

Threadware itinerary sounds good
