Best route from Levanto, Italy to Ascona Switzerland

Hello, We are looking for most scenic route or one with most interesting places to stop and visit on way to Ascona Switzerland from Levanto ,Italy.Google maps gives us 3 routes about 4 hours each. There routes are as follows, going to Genoa and up via A26 to Stresa and on to Ascona, via A7/E62to Genoa and to Milan and on to Como and beyond , via A15/E33 and A1/E35 near Parma and to Placenza to Como and beyond to Lugano and Ascona. Any help with these routes would be greatly appreciated as to difficulty too. If you have better routes to see more we would love to hear from you .Thank you so much for your help, Jo.

I can't help but think that the first route you mention, via Stresa, which avoids going through Milan, is your best bet. You will travel pretty much the length of the Lago Maggiore west shore.

That was my original pick as I thought it more relaxing and we could stop in Stresa and visit villages on the way to Ascona. We will be in Ascona for 3 nights and wonder if traveling to Lugano or near Lake Como would be difficult by car from Ascona. Of course we are planning trip to Verzaska Valley and Corippo etc. Foroglio is on our list too so may not have the time to get to Lake Como area.

Careful of driving in Switzerland as you will need to buy a Swiss vignette sticker for your car if you drive on any motorways. That is an additional advantage to the route via Stresa as no vignette is required, but that could change if you plan more travel in Switzerland.
