Best Quote on the Forum This Week

James E. on a thread about packing in which a poster rued his decision to make his family wear semi dress-up clothes during their visit to Europe:

"I have a confession to make. I will do it here, but please don’t spread it around…… I am …. Well at least when I am traveling, I am …. This is so hard…. I AM A TOURIST! There I said it. I feel much better now."

James, it seems this must have been a very liberating declaration!! ; )

I may be a tourist but that doesn't mean that I have to act like a tourist, or dress like a tourist, or in general broadcast my tourism. Or worse yet, act like a stupid American tourist.

I always act like a tourist in holiday. I don't go to work, i sightsee all day and i eat out everyday too.

How does one not act like a tourist? 😅

AND NOW - Drum roll - applause

For this week's Quote of the Week -

in response to a question about carry on luggage plus personal items on Air France Paris to Poland

James E (him again, eh?) had this gem...

I suppose what you are saying is that your baggage is over weight and you are looking for reassurance that you can get away with it? My experience on Air France is, YES; except for those rare instances when it is NO.

James E. wins twice in a row! Unprecedented! Let's see if he hits a trifecta!

I was going to give him the Trifecta, but the latest gem has only taken 3 days. Not even a week. Now there has to be a state by state vote of the delegates.

In a post about Hungarian restaurants where his font size had become - shall we say - large (corrected now, whew!!), our James E said

And I have no idea why they are showing up so big and underlined in the forum post. nothing I did.

Emphasis added...... Good one James E.

And congratulations on your imminent promotion to blue star.

Okay folks--it's a new week, and here is Pat talking about going through tunnels in Switzerland:

"*Look i dont like tunnels, i would rather go through one in a train as i can close my eyes( not a good idea if driving a car) . *

Does she stand a chance with this one?

Okay, James E., I kinda like this one from you just now in response to the question of where to eat in Budapest......: "While in Hungary in particular and the region in general you will see a lot of duck on the menu. That sort of explains the pate and the feather pillows and comforters......." . Since I am planning on going to Budapest next Fall, I really enjoyed it!

When we outfitted our apartment in Budapest we went out and bought these great feather comforters and feather pillows. My significant other enjoyed them so much that I was told we would have to buy some for our home in the States. When I saw the price on the ones in the states I decided we would stick with some sort of synthetic. Someone once told me that Hungary had the highest per capita consumption of Foie gras and from what I have seen it could be true. We'll go to Macesz Bistro for dinner (duck), then stop at Kadarka Wine Bar for pate and Tokaji Aszú; before wandering home to the feather pillows and comforters. Simply a ducky evening for all.

Hungary was the second largest producer of duck meat in the EU (about 60,000 metric tonnes) in 2013. It was a distant second to France (280,000 metric tonnes in 2013).

So for the French that works out to about 8 pounds of duck per person. For the Hungarians it works out to about 12 pounds per person. But I am not going to guarantee my math on this one. Either way its a bunch of Quack!

Between all the ducks and geese - that's a lot of feathers and foie gras.

For this weeks' entry can I nominate Michael from Seattle for a priceless gem which does take a moment to get...

That's not a dumb question. A dumb question is: "Where are the fifteen other chapels?"

Yes--it did take a moment--but good one and good catch, Nigel.

OK - it took two moments! Good call Nigel!

Thats the title to Dan Brown's next conspiracy novel. Tom Hanks will star as Robert Langdon once again in the movie version.

Reminds me of the David Letterman Show, June 2012 talking with Justin Bieber about tattoos.

I had forgotten about this one from April from EMMA . . . in the thread about taking a rental car "over the border" from Scotland to England:

"They may take our lives, but they'll never take our rental cars!" - William Wallace's younger brother Avis Wallace

Now that's gotta be in the tops of the tops!!!

It's simple. If you're never a tourist, then you never go anywhere.
