Best Place to Spend Christmas in Europe

I'm planning to spend approx 8 days around Christmas Time, but am having trouble picking a city (or two) I've seen a lot of Vienna, Berlin, Nuremburg, or Strasbourg online. I'm very interested in seeing the holiday festivities, such as the Christmas Markets.

Does anyone have any recommendations or favorites??

Thank you!

You can easily fill a week in Berlin. Plenty of modern history, cosmopolitan and numerous Christmas markets. I was there last December, but not over Christmas. I found Vienna to be rather dull in comparison, although I know it has many fans on this forum.

Nuremberg and Strasbourg won’t keep you occupied for a week.

Take care if planning to move cities over the holiday period, as services maybe reduced or there maybe train track maintenance happening.

Try to get to wherever in time for the Christmas Markets. they mostly close on the 24th December, or even the 23rd. I would plan the 8 days to leave around 26th/27th, i.e. arrive around 18th/19th.
I would suggest Nuremberg + Strasbourg as a good fit. You could fly into and out of Frankfurt, both are accessible from Frankfurt airport. Both have things to see apart from the Christmas Markets.
Or: Munich + Strasbourg, fly into Munich and out of Paris or Frankfurt.

We spent a few days in Strasbourg enjoying the Christmas markets and then headed to Paris for 10 days over the Christmas period. There’s heaps to do in Paris and we loved being there at Christmas. We spent Christmas Day in Chantilly and enjoyed daytrips to Versailles and Brussels ( more Christmas markets there!) We also enjoyed the small Christmas market near the Eiffel Tower. Spending the New Year in Venice was also wonderful!
