Hi, what was your best experience for buying euros in the states. I have my reasons and just need ideas. What banks? Or? Thanks;).
Hi Monique. I won't try to encourage you to wait until you arrive because it sounds like you already know you can easily buy them at an airport ATM upon your arrival. In the old days (before ATMs were so readily available in europe), when I found that my bank needed 7-10 days to get euros for me, I started using my AAA membership to buy them at the Bellevue AAA office. They always had an inventory of euros on hand and charged a reasonable fee.
I'm sure you will find that the International teller at Wells Fargo main branch in Seattle will sell them for 5% over the Interbank rate, and I don't think you will find anyone in the US selling Euro for less.
You could always buy them at the airport before you leave.
If you have any interest in saving money, Lee has the correct answer. The markup might be two or three times higher at AAA or a US airport. Wells Fargo International Teller locations can be found at this link: https://www.wellsfargo.com/foreignexchange/ Phone ahead to check availability. Depending on you needs, you might want to ask about some smaller bills.
