1st time traveling to Europe. Leaving from Los Angeles area all airports are options. Flying into Rome and flying out of Paris homeward. Any recommendations? airlines etc…?
One place to start is Google flights. It will give you a choice of round trip, one way, or multi city. Choose Multicity and put in your two flights and the dates. This will generate a list of options for you to consider.
Ahardball let me share my memories. Hope you are thinking of a RS Tour. In 2014 we our committed to our first. RS best of Italy and fell in love with tours. We are are now headed to our 9th in Sept. Here are some of our things we learned.
We always fly direct to Europe from Seattle to a major city. 9 - 10 Hrs vs 4 -5 to east coast then 8+
Get here and start adjusting to time. Relax , we stay up out doors, others nap then outdoors
Give yourself 1-2 days to catchup
Carryon luggage is our way
Return flights are easier to adjust.
Departure cities are an added bonus. Plan to explore London, Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, Munich, etc for a couple days on your way home.
I could share lots of tech ideas: google maps, google photos, Tripit, google translate,
Pm me if you like

Best thing I can say is fly non-stop. And arrive a couple days early, because you want some time in whatever city you fly into and also some time to acclimate to the time shift.
