I'm looking to head to Europe and looking to be there for 6+ months.... Looking for best travel insurance options/alternatives for long term travel
I dont know if it the best but I got mine from Allianz (found them off the AETNA website). But mine is a 12 month expat policy. Customer service was pretty excellent when signing up. Actually got to discuss with a living person (although email).
Check out DAN. divers Alert network. Don’t have to be a diver! They have annual travel policies and short term ones. I have used them in the past as have many people I know and we have been satisfied.
I have an Allianz annual policy and I got to discuss it with live person on the phone. I've had one for a few years.
My policy won't work for you because the maximum any one trip in the year is 90 days. But they might have something that does work for longer periods.
Are you aware of the 90-days-within-180-days length-of-stay limit for folks traveling to most of Europe on US and Canadian passports? A long-stay visa is a way to get around that limit (as is spending a lot of time in countries that aren't part of the Schengen area (most prominently, the UK and Ireland), but the visa path is not quick or simple.
Yes... I am unfortunately aware of the Schengen rule.... England however allows me six month stays??
I believe you're right, normally, though I haven't spent such a large chunk of time there in any single year. I use it as a frequent Schengen escape.
Another vote for DAN. You always get a human, their coverage is good at a reasonable cost (one-time based on cost of trip, your age, and state of residence) or annual policy. The year-long might be a better value because of the length of your trip, though. We looked at it but decided to go the individual trip route for our annual trips. Their claim process was quick and easy.
