Any hotel recommendations for 4 travelers arriving via London Heathrow Airport, an overnight stay then departing Eurostar at St Pancras for Paris? Need the comfort of good nights sleep and convenience to get to St Pancras Station.
Hi Maile You don't give any clue of amenity level or price point, nor how early a Eurostar train you need to catch, nor if you are 2 adults and 2 small children or 4 adults. More detail yields a more specific answer. So, shooting in the dark, assuming you have deep pockets or loads of Marriott points burning holes in those pockets, there is a Marriott Renaissance right on the station which took over the Victorian hotel built by the railway and put in I don't know how many stars of comfort. It must be at least 5 star, possibly more. For other amenity levels and price points, or less urgent train timetables, there are many small hotels and B&Bs in the Gower Street area of Bloomsbury.
Hi Nigel, this is my first post on a forum, I sure did forget the details. First european trip, no deep pockets, searching for clean comfortable hotel with at least safe neighborhood, WIFI and air conditioning. Nice to be someplace we could walk to good restaurant. After international flight we'll need our sleep. We leave next day on Eurostar at 1630. All travelers are adults.
A caution for people wanting to stay at the St Pancras station hotel: most of the hotel rooms are not in the iconic Scott building but in a new wing built alongside the station. Most of the Scott building got turned into luxury apartments. There are a lot of complaints on TripAdvisor about how lacking in character the actual rooms are.
When we caught the Eurostar we stayed at the Ibis Hotel Euston (adjacent to Euston station). About a 10 minute walk to St. Pancras. Suited us perfectly.
Since your train does not depart until 16:30 the next day, mthere is no need to stay near St.Pancras. I would pick someplace very easy to get to, with a minimum of fuss, after your long flight. With four of you, the group ticket on the Heathrow Express becomes cost effective, at £12.50 each. This is the fastest and simplest way into London from Heathrow. You end at Paddington Station, and there are a ton of hotels in that area and nearby in Bayswater. You could ask for recommendations but I have heard good very things about the London Elizabeth and a nice little pub nearby for dinner. ( The Swan? Help me out here, everybody). Cab for four from Paddington to the London Elizabeth will be very inexpensive. In the morning you can have a nice stroll through Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, which are practically across the street. Ask for late check-out, or ask to leave your luggage there while you walk and have lunch. Then about 14:00 catch a cab to take you to St. Pancras. That is what I would do, anyway.
Thank you all for the awesome advice. Great tip about Heathrow Express, I'll be sure to do that. I was able to reserve rooms at Comfort Inn Hyde Park, hope to have time to walk around. I'll post results.
