Best European destination for June 2015?

I have the rare opportunity to take some time off work in June 2015 (boss will gone for 2 weeks!) I've only travelled to Europe in the fall, to avoid big crowds and premium prices. Does anyone have a destination recommendation for summer travel on a budget, or somewhere with the fewest June crowds? Many thanks!

I loved Belgium and Germany in June, had wonderful weather in both places and I don't mind crowds so much because they are a fact of life in summer travel. If you're going to visit popular sites you'll have crowds no matter where you go, the further 'off the grid' you go the fewer crowds there will be. I loved Prague, Vienna, and Budapest but that was in July and they were all quite hot, maybe in June they would have been better. Personally, I prefer dealing with crowds over dealing with high heat.

Hello Pamela. We might be able to help you if we have more information from you. You said "on a budget". What kind of budget ?
Do you want a relatively low price for airline tickets ? Or do you seek a good hotel that has relatively low prices ? What do you wish to do in Europe ? In what number of countries in Europe do you wish to travel ? Do you insisit on being at a big city ? Do you wish to walk through a mideaval castle ? Or a big royal palace ? Do you want to drive a rental car on country roads at peaceful rural places ? Do you want to see a sea ? A big Lake surrounded by mountains ? ... ?

Think about Scandinavia. Yes, it's not cheap, but summer is actually the least expensive time to go, since the hotels have various discounts then (when business travelers aren't going). It never gets wildly crowded, and the long days and good weather make it a great time to visit. Furthermore, it's not so great in other seasons, so take advantage (by our autumn, Scandinavia is getting cool, dark, and rainy).

Rick's Scandinavia book has all the details about the hotel discounts. In Stockholm, there's a great package where you get a hotel and a sightseeing pass. By using this, I actually spent less per day than in many "cheaper" cities.
