We are looking for an esim that will allow us to make phone calls and receive texts while in Europe. We have never used an esim, and would appreciate any help from anyone who has used them.
Some eSIMs do provide a local telephone number. I don't know whether those are sometimes country-specific, so we may need to know what countries you plan to visit.
Receiving texts sent to your home telephone number may be a different issue. I have no problem with that because I have Google Fi service and texts are free, so I just let things from home roll in. I don't know whether that is practical with other carriers.
BJ, a few questions:
What cellphone is it? Recent iPhones and Android phones differ in how they can use wifi calling.
Is your phone unlocked? If it came from the service provider, it may be locked to their network and won't work with an esim.
When you say "make phone calls and receive texts", do you mean with your "normal" home phone number? If so, that involves your service provider. Or do you mean with a new, European phone number?
When you say "make phone calls and receive texts", do you mean to/from the U.S., or to/from Europe?
Most often, esim's just provide inexpensive data, although some of them will provide a European phone number. If they do offer a phone number, you may have to look closely at their website to find that option.
