Bed Bugs, Anyone?

If you're an Intrepid Traveller like me, chances are you've done a little bed hopping with bed bugs in tow...
It doesn't seem to matter if it's a Three Star, Four Star or Five..Bed Bugs happen!

Anyone have any tips on avoidance or riddance? How do you cope? Any remedies you swear by? Any precautions taken?

You are exactly right about bed bugs being in One Star through Five Star Hotels. I was very happy with the information and product I bought online from Do My Own Pest Control. Below is the link to the page on bed bugs. They informed me also how to look for them and told me it was important to spray my luggage inside and out, which we did and fortunately we had no further problems. We found bed bugs in a hotel along the highway in Memphis, TN. Good luck! http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=bed+bugs&search_in_description=1&s=1&osCsid=6b67164684a63a6823b133f204ddb24a

Thanks, Susan! I'll be sure to check that site out! And I'm especially thankful for the tip on spraying my luggage both inside and out! I never thought of doing that...makes good sense to me!

And there are other kinds of bugs. An item that could help is a sheet sack. I recommend the cotton sheet sack, for sale at "Travel Store" at this website. Sheet sacks for sale at some other stores are made partially of polyester : that is less comfortable than cotton. I put the sheet sack in between the sheets on a hotel bed. And I get in the sheet sack. Thus my skin and hair does not touch the old used sheets. And bring a new pillow case from home. Put the hotel pillow in it. Washing sheets and pillow cases with hot water and detergent does NOT eliminate mites. Mites were the cause of the bubonic plague ("black death") in Europe during the middle ages. Mites carried the bacterium Yersinia pestis which causes bubonic. Hotel sheets that touched very many human bodies have mites. Mites are on hotel beds, from every country on the Earth. And methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus can be in hotel rooms. Read about it in Reader's Digest/August 2007 :"Deadly Super Bugs".

Mites are transferred from people's skin to towells, wash cloths, sheets, pillow cases, blankets, and possibly carpet. A health problem caused by dust mites, known at the present time, is allergies. I do not have any allergy, but I do not want mites from other people's skin to be on my skin.

This is a 6 year old zombie post. I doubt anyone would have dug it up from the grave and been upset that an old website was obsolete.
