BBC Language Courses

Have any of you tried the online BBC language courses? I was particularly intrigued by the Spanish ones and the interactive Spanish Mystery Mini-Series.

I used "Talk Italian" some years ago. It worked fine to give me basic tourist vocabulary and competence in checking into hotels, ordering food and drink, asking for and understanding directions, etc. It probably helps that I have a reasonable foundation in French and Spanish.

Like JER, I checked out the italian version. It's good for beginners and was rather entertaining, but since I was taking private lessons at the time, it was too basic for my needs.

One that I did enjoy for general practice though was freerice.com which lets you practice your vocab in several different languages, and each correct answer donates 20? grains of rice.

I've done most of their Spanish course. It's a good course for travelers to pick up some basics. Couple it with other programs and tapes you can get at the library.

Hi Laura,

I took some of the German course but discontinued it since I had other materials that I was studying with (grammer textbook, reading book, CD's etc.). Up until the point I stopped however, I thought it was a pretty decent course. Any little bit helps, right?
