Battery Charger for Digital Camera

Hi Everyone, I have a Sony digital camera that has a plug in battery charger. I could the plug the charger into the wall socket in Japan and it fit. I did not need to buy an adaptor. Will I be able to use just the plug for my charger in London and Paris or will I need to buy an adaptor inorder to plug it into the wall and charge my battery? Thanks in advance,
Bella

Thanks guys for the info. I do have a charger that only has 2 flat prongs on it. I will only be using it in London and Paris. Do I still need to buy additional plug adapters?

A lot of newer hotels in Asia have outlets that will accept any kind of plug. That's not the case in Europe. You'll need to buy two adapters. One adapter for the UK, and another one for continental Europe. They're sold on this very website...click the "travel store" tab above.

Bella, It appears that your Charger is designed for "world operation" from 100-240VAC, so that's one concern you won't have to worry about. As Michael indicated, you'll need to purchase two Plug Adaptors for use in Europe. The U.K. model will have three large rectangular pins, while the Europe model will have two round pins. I'm assuming that your Camera Charger has only two pins? If you need a grounding pin, there are several variations of that in Europe (variations for Italy, Switzerland, etc.). If you need further information, post another note. You can have a look at various types of Plug Adapters at This website. Happy travels!

Yes, you will still need both a UK adapter and a European one. You can purchase them inexpensively at a Radio Shack, Walmart, or Target.

You can get replacement adapters in lots of places in Europe: hotel gift shops, airport duty free stores, souvenir stores, sky mall while your are flying.......anywhere tourists congregate:)

BTW, tape the adapter to you plug. The European (continent anyway) receptacles grip the plug tightly. On one trip I pulled the charger cord out of the wall and left the adapter in the receptacle.

I'm with Nancy, shop Target or Wal Mart for what you need. There are plenty to find at a much better price than at RS. As an aside, I did purchase an all in one adapter from ebags a year ago. It has every adapter needed in one small item. Here is the link: http://www.ebags.com/product/ebags/universal-plug-adapter-kit/97156?productid=1248249 You should note that there is also a similar item that has a USB plug as well, but that's not something I needed, and it's a bit more expensive. It comes with a bright colored bag. I found this great for finding this item in my carry on luggage. (black gets lost- I bought the orange one) I travel at least once a year, and I found this more convenient to have. I still use my older adapter (bought at Target 10 years ago) I find that I travel with more electronics now, so I have 2 adapters. I have an iphone, Nook, digital camera battery, etc. That way I can charge two items overnight, and not worry about not having them work the next day!

The RS site only charges $1.00 for each adapter. Even with the S&H and sales tax, I'd rather give my money to Rick than the Walton Family.

Hi Everyone, Just bought both of the adapters (on sale!) from the RS Travel Store. Since they are so cheap, I am a little nervous about how good they are. Has anyone ever used them? Should I now go and buy a back up in case they are not of good quality? What about the travel belt, has anyone ever used the RS one? Thanks,
Bella

They're just some conducters (picture a piece of wire with caps on the end) inside a piece of plasctic. Nothing more complicated that one of those outlet multiplyers you stick in the wall - - no electronics.. Unless you beat them with a hammer they'll last forever. Mine are at least thirty years old.

Good suggestion from Lee - it also happened to me. What are you calling a "travel belt"? Is that the money belt that RS sells? If so, I get one from him every year to go on one of his tours and use it all the time in Europe for a month each year with no problems. While I do not work for RS, I do use his products purchased from his Edmonds, WA store and highly recommend them. It does help support this web site.

Glad you have the adaptor and it should work. My husband found that some places we stayed in had a 110 volt electric socket on the bathroom mirror for electric razors that worked for our canon elph camera battery charger too. (This was on our last 2 trips). Not sure how that would be for your charger. Maybe someone here could advise you.
