I am going to Europe at the end of August. I want to take my digital camera but i am worried about charging the battery and the outlet frying or overheating. What do i need to make this work? Ps. I have a Cannon Elph
Take a look at the battery charger for your camera. If it says "100-240 volts" or something similar then it will handle European power. All you will need, in that case, is an adapter plug to make the prongs fit European outlets. If your battery charger only says "110 volts" then you will need to purchase a power converter as well....available in the travel department of any store, including Wal-Mart, Target, etc.
Thanks~
Hi Jackie,
I also have a Canon Elph. On the back of the charger mine says 100-240V AC. If your is the same, you are good to go but you'll need the adapter plug(s). These can usually be found online for around $2-3.
Mine is the same as yours. It is just a plug then? I think i have one from my last trip to Europe. I just get nervous because i tried to use my hair straightner and it caught on fire....a lot more volts...hahah. Thanks for your reply.
Jackie,
I have a number of Canon Cameras, both P&S as well as dSLR, and ALL of the Chargers are designed to operate from 100-240 VAC. I've used these on many occasions in Europe with no problems. A Plug Adaptor specific for the countries you'll be visiting will be required (UK style has 3 large rectangular pins, Euro style has two small round pins).
Happy travels!
Most camera battery rechargers are good with both currents. Check to be sure, then just pack the adapter plug and you will be fine.
