Hi My wife and I have travelled almost 50,000 Km. throughout Europe by motorcycle over the past several years and have relied extensively on your books. This time we hope to visit Slovania and the Balkans. We have been told that due to the many poorly maintained diesel vehicles on the roads, spilling diesel fuel, combined with the road dust, results in the road surface becoming very slippery during wet weather. This would make motorcycle riding quite dangerous. Do you have information you could give us in this regard. Thank you
Konrad
have relied extensively on your books. Konrad, I can't answer your question because I have no knowledge east of Italy, but I will say that from the tone of your message it sounds like you believe you are reaching Rick Steves or his staff. While the Helpline is hosted here at ETBD it is run and answered by volunteer fellow travelers and not viewed by RS or any staff at ETBD unless stated (very very very rarely). Others more with more knowledge may respond in due time. You posted to General Europe. The Balkans are generally covered in "To the East".
slovenia is no problem. you'll see plenty motor cycles on the road and the condition is very good. other countries condition varies, so don't have high expectations. i was surprised bulgaria actually has good roads, but other countries may not.
