Hi
Returning to Eurpoe for 14 days. Old backpack retired. Any suggestions on a sturdy one theat you loved and that withstood lots of zipping, buckling and on and off shoulders. Thanks bunches.
I've used an Osprey Daylite Plus for a long time -- https://www.osprey.com/daylite-plus-dayltpluss21-795?color=Black
Are you talking about a small backpack to be used as a daypack, like the size a school kid would use? Or a luggage sized backpack that would be used as your main bag with shoulder straps to carry most of your stuff? Look here to see what I mean: Rick Steves bags
I like my Deuter 35l for traveling, but use a messenger bag worn cross body for walks around town and sight seeing, never a back pack.
I have the same question as an early post regarding the size of backpack you're looking for. If you're looking for a large travel pack that's going to be well loaded, it's important to use a pack that has a hip belt and one that provides adjustment for torso range. Most of the weight should rest on your hips, and not your shoulders. I use packs both from Eagle Creek and Osprey, and both brands have been great.
We have been using RS original packs for 20+ years. Lots of use, not just one Euro trip a year. Third world, boats, planes, trains, vans, etc. Thrown around and abused. No problems. very tough.
Osprey bags are very good and many hikers use them. I've seen two different ones that have been recommended; the Osprey Fairview 40L Women's Travel Backpack is the smaller of the two, and then there is the Osprey Fairview 55L Women's Travel Backpack. You can find them online and also at REI, if there is one near you. I would suggest buying one in person, if possible, as you can definitely get a better feel for how it fits your body.
I’ve used my Tom Bihn Synapse 19 for 10 years and it looks like new. It is my personal bag and fits under the plane seat easily. If you need a larger (or smaller) backpack they make all sizes and are well-made and sturdy.
I too am unsure of exactly what you are looking for. If you are looking for a daypack, I highly recommend this one. I use is for day hiking as well as my personal item on the plane. I have had mine for about 10 years and it still looks new, and I don't baby it at all.

If you are looking for a larger one, this is what I use for backpacking here in our Cascade mountains. Again, I have had this for years and it is still holding up great.

I have one wonky shoulder and both of these are easy on/off and very lightweight.
