We are traveling to Europe next month with a 1 and 2 year old. Although we have been several times this will be the first with our children. I keep seeing backpack stroller combinations as an option, however, the companies that I have come across seem to have stopped making them ( Instep, Kelty ). Does anyone know of any that I am just not seeing online??? Thank you!
I have never seen such a thing, I'd be quite interested if it did exist. What I use is a Combi Flare stroller. It folds up fairly small and light and has a strap for slinging it over your shoulder. It's not perfect, but it's sturdier for toddlers than a cheap umbrella stroller, and the strap and lightness is handy. We also have an Ergo baby carrier. My husband now uses it to carry the 2 year old for hikes, but last time we were in Europe he used it with the 4 year old. The thing is sturdy and more comfortable than you'd think. If anyone knows of a backpack/stroller, please post!
Thanks so much! How often did you use the Ergo baby carrier and what was the average amount of time you would carry your child in it? We are trying to decide on the ergo baby carrier or the tough traveler bablebleux backpack. Any information helps!
On a larger child, the Ergo is comfortable for shorter times than with a baby, obviously. I used to wear the baby in it for hours non-stop with no issues. My husband carries the 2 year old (30 lbs) comfortably for an hour or so. Two sometimes. Then we find a park or something, let the kids run around and walk for awhile, then back to the carrier when tired. I'm not familiar with the other carrier you mentioned, but I can say that the ergo is quite useful.
After reading your post, I had my husband fashion a strap onto my Joovy Caboose! Thanks for the inspiration!
I have an Ergo and would totally recommend it. I have traveled alone (domestically) with my two kiddos and could not have done it without the Ergo. I had my 3 year old in a BOB stroller and the one year old in the Ergo and still had one hand to pull the suitcase behind me. I continued to use the Ergo until my youngest got so tall it was awkward for both of us. It is hands down the best carried I have used- and I have been through a few:) Happy Travels!
