Backpack Help

We'll be in Europe for 3 weeks beginning May 17. We'll be backpacking and don't want to check bags, but are having a difficult time finding backpacks that meet the 55x40x23 cm dimension restrictions most of the airlines are using. Does anybody have any recommendations on a good backpack that meets these?

Hello Ben,

Did you check out the travel store? They have some pretty great bags that meet the airline requirments. And they happen to be on sale.

Good Luck!

Get a Rick Steves bag. I have the expandable backpack and love it. If you want to do carry-on both to and from Europe then buy the non-expandable one to fit the regulations. I bought the expandable one because I go over there with a carry-on and on the way back I expand it to fit all my goodies and check the bag.

I'm surprised the camping stores haven't started selling carry-on backpacks. Most backpacks are too long for carry-on. By the time you get down to the right length, you're looking at daypacks.

Your best bet may be a convertible carry on. They aren't as good as a backpack, but do the trick.

Check out www.onebag.com, he doesn't sell bags but it has discussions and recommendations about bags. It might have more on carry-on backpacks.

It's not a problem at all. RS has a few bags, also you can check out these web sites: ebags.com, rei.com , sierratradingpost.com
Also search for discount coupons on google. I usually find 20% off or /and free shipping for those sites.
There were a few threads about backpacks. use the search engine on top right corner.
