back packing for seniors

We are both 70 & are planning a 2 week trip to the Cotswolds & France and would like to just have 1 back pack/knap sack each, with the bare necessities; clothing that we will wash every few days. Can anyone advise the best type/brand; with wheels or not? We have always taken 2 small suit cases, but want to travel lighter!

Check out Rick's Travel Store! Our family of 6 has several and consider them the best.

If you're going to go with just one back pack each, you might also consider taking a smaller, compact lightweight day pack of some sort as well. You will appreciate it for shorter, daily shopping trips.
I've never really liked back packs with wheels. I find the majority of which add extra weight and the handle frame at your back can be a nuissance.

I bought my backpack at REI. Shop around to find the packs that suit you and that fit you. Spend some time with adjusting the straps so that the belt goes around your upper pelvis; you will be more comfortable if most of the weight is carried by your pelvis and legs rather than your back. It's really important to get into shape. Put weight in your pack and walk around with it regularly so that your body, especially legs, gets used to this activity. I am your age and have traveled with backpack a lot. I carry 17-18 pounds but any more feels too heavy.
