Baby Medicines

Hello,

We are visiting Brussels, Bruges, Giethoorn, Amsterdam and Berlin and our 10-month old is joining us this time.
I'm wondering what medicines you guys carry in your safety kid in case of emergency for you baby. Could you please suggest what I should be bringing with me?? Please advice!

Thanks!

It would probably be best to ask your doctor.

Definitely ask your doctor. what her bare-bones kit would be. I wouldn't poll the internet for things like this, you'll get crazy answers.

Not sure if you're doing solids yet, but when mine were tiny I had a portable plastic food mill so I could mash up whatever we were eating. Worked great and was easy to wash. You could take a small hand sanitizer bottle and refill it with some dish soap.

Definitely ask your doctor for recommended medicines, then come back here to ask and make sure they are available at your destination. Some friends of ours were n Norway always asked us to bring them some Baby Tylenol, as it was not available in Norway or elsewhere in Europe that they regularly traveled.

Good point--I was surprised in Amsterdam that you can buy contact lenses right off the shelf, but I had to receive a consultation and lecture in order to buy a packet of Advil. Not everything is approved for over-the-counter there. Whatever your ped recommends, bring with you just in case. The other aspect is that 24-hour pharmacies are few and far between in the EU and babies always seem to fall ill at inconvenient times.

I have travelled with three children , starting at 4 months .

I always bring what I use with them ( I'm not wild about experimenting with something new while away )

This included Baby Tylenol ( kids wake up with fevers at two am with no warning most times , who wants to find a drugstore at that time !?)

A decongestant ( the brand I used was Dimetapp but I don't think they make it anymore ) , if flying you do not want babies to scream from pain in their ears because they are a little stuffy , being stuffy makes the ears hurt ALOT more )

Baby Gravol .

Throw in some antiseptic creams and a few bandages .

If your child has specific health issues then you know what sort of stuff you give them for that ( constipation issues etc )

Be assured there is excellent medical care in Europe for anything more than a cold etc .

Is I used Oralgel for severe teething problems . Babies screaming in hotel rooms or apartments with thin walls , not fun .

And since most baby meds are in liquid form, don't forget that medical liquids do not count towards your 3-1-1 bag's contents.

Always good to check with your doctor, but we brought Ibuprofen and Benadryl for our 2 year old. We also had a travel with a prescribed antibiotic due to him being sick the week before we left.
