B&B on the Mosel River in Germany

On a previous Rick Steves program, he stayed at a small, quaint B&B overlooking the Mosel River in Germany. He stated that mostly Germans stayed there and he viewed this business very favorably. Has anyone had an experience there and/or what is the name of this business?

If you watch the show he will likely mention the name. If you don't have the show look it up on You Tube. I have stayed a several places he stays on his shows and noticed that he usually has them listed in his travel book for that country. We found two based on the innkeepers name he mentioned on the show and then he mentioned the innkeepers name in the book too, so we found a "match".

I don't know which one it was, myself. There are many, many such places on the Mosel River in dozens of towns. If Rick has mentioned a certain place, there's a pretty good bet that you'll be staying there with some of your fellow countrymen, as Rick's flock tends to follow its shepherd. Personally, I wouldn't be afraid to try any of the many that he hasn't mentioned, where you're perhaps more likely to bump into visitors from Germany, the Netherlands, or England at breakfast or over a glass of wine (which might in fact make for a more interesting stay.)

Here are just a handful. Bavaria Ben's pages normally have some good choices.

Rick used to be a big fan of the town of Zell and he used to state that mostly Germans stayed there. We went in 2001 and found that to be true. (One guy serving wine at the bar in the center of the town square told us that the only people who came there were Germans and Rick Steves readers.) He no longer seems to favor Zell over some of the other options. However, we did stay in a wonderful B&B there with views of the river. It was right down from the one he used to recommend and showed on his earlier shows. (she was full when we got there and sent us down to the one we stayed at.) I am wondering if you have seen the older show and that is where he was staying. I believe Gasthaus Gertrud Thiessen was where he used to stay. I know the one where we stayed the owners have retired. However, if you look online, you could probably find some B&B's there that are on the street that lined the river. He tends to favor Beilstein now.

I too suggest looking at Bavaria Ben's website about the Mosel River area--http://bensbauernhof.com/

His information on accommodations and towns is right on--and accurate.

We stayed there 2 years ago, and really enjoyed the small town and the Hotel Haus Lipmann. Splurge for one of the rooms in the front with the balcony. Very relaxing watching the cruise ships going by as well as the unique ferry crossing the river. Friendly service and very good food.
