B and B recommendations for Florence Countryside or Hill town

Hi,
I am planning on spending 2-3 days in Rome (is two enough to see several main sites)
and then planning to go to Florence, but I am more interested in the countryside. I am not planning
to rent a car. After Florence, we are going to Venice but I am thinking more and more that I want
to cut off time in Venice to put towards the countryside. Any thoughts?

Check out Olive Tree Hill in Zagarolo, 20 miles south of Rome. They're #1 in customer satisfaction in the Rome region. Ivano will drive you to the train station (2 mi.) and pick you up and it's a 20 mile ride into Rome Termini. He is also a superior tour guide famous for his midnight tours of Rome.

We found about as many great tourist sights in the Rome suburbs as there are within the city.

Hi, thanks for the recommendation. I hadn't thought about staying outside of Rome. Actually, I was thinking more of staying
out of the city outside of Florence. This gives me something more to consider, though I think I have my heart set on the Tuscany
area, if it works out.
I am still open for more ideas!

Hard to answer without knowing the length of your trip.
3 nights 2 days would be a minimum for Rome. You will probably arrive jet lagged and have at most 4-6 hours before you collapse.

Train to Florence is around 90 minutes. Since you will not have a car you would then have to bus to another town.
Two of the closest connections are Siena and Greve in Chianti.
Greve is much smaller. Both have bus connections to other towns.

We loved Agriturismo Marciano, which is just 2 km outside of Siena. We did an Italy trip a few years ago and our itinerary was 2 nights Venice (wished we had had 3-4), 2 nights Florence (repeat visit for us), 2 nights Agriturismo (wished we had a LOT more time here), 1 night Sorano, 3 nights Rome (repeat visit). We rented a car to get from Florence to Rome, which was a lot of fun and gave us a lot more freedom.

If you get tickets in advance to the Colosseum, you could easily see that, the Forum, and a few other small places in two days. If you stay for a third day and like museums, I'd highly recommend getting tickets for the Borghese Gallery.

We loved Venice and can't wait to go back.. but everyone is different. Florence is beautiful, but it's definitely a city to spend a lot of time in museums and churches. There are so many to see there!
