Has anyone been to Montenegro this year? What were your average daily costs for your trip? What did you include? Did you prepare your own meals at all? What type of accommodation? I heard that it is less expensive than other countries and I see that accommodation can be less, just trying to create a budget as we plan for next years trip to the area.
I recommend looking at booking.com to get an idea of lodging costs, though you might save a bit by booking directly.
I never know how to answer questions about food costs, because people have such different standards. Why not check the websites of some of the restaurants located in the centers of the towns you plan to visit. You can find such places by zooming in on Google maps.
Prices of tourist commodities will vary from place to place, being higher in the coastal towns popular with Western European tourists.
Thanks. Where in Montenegro did you go? I prefer to book directly incase there are any issues. It also gives the business all the money without having to pay a middle person.
I've been to Montenegro twice since 2015. Over the course of the two trips I've stayed in Kotor, Podgorica and Bar. I've daytripped to Ulcinj, Herceg Novi, Cetinje, Budva and Perat, and I went to Risan just to see the Roman mosaics. I like Kotor a lot, but it is very touristy when there's a cruise ship in port. Budva and Herceg Novi are also popular vacation spots. Podgorica, the capital, doesn't have very much of interest to the typical tourist.
Montenegro is a very scenic country; the bus trip from Southern Serbia to Podgorica was beautiful. Unfortunately, the national parks do not seem to be accessible by public transportation. The various cities are reasonably well served by public buses.
Pay directly, that's okay.
Most important get good advice, appreciate that advice, trust that advice, let go, relax and enjoy. The worst that can happen is that it's only 75% of what you hoped for with is still 90% better than over thinking and worry.
When are you going?
We are planning for May / June 2026
Last June we stayed in Kotor in the historical centre at Katareo Apartments. We had the duplex which was spacious, clean and well located. I would definately recommend. We paid €100 per night and probably less than €100 per day for food and sightseeing. However, we are not big foodies and two nights we went out for a sit down dinner and one night just had pizza. The owner of Katareo also did our laundry (we were midtrip) for less than €20. We had an issue with the hot water, basically couldn't figure out how to turn it on (it had a separate tank you had to turn on first), and when I called, she was there within 5 minutes. Her english wasn't fluent, but I never expect that anyway and we managed just fine. From what we saw, Montenegro is a stunningly beautiful country. Enjoy!
