Auto insurance for Liability

We are renting a car for 4 weeks, our Visa covers us for collision, but we have nothing for injury or liability. Do you add this when you rent, or just go without? We have rented in Europe before and really didn't give it a though. Maybe that was foolish?

Where are you driving? I think liability is automatically included with the rental, since it is required by law. Your VISA won't cover you for collision if you are driving in Ireland (or possibly Italy).

We are renting in Germany, driving to Italy, Switzerland, France and back to Germany, and dropping it off there.
I hope you are correct and it is already included.

I just got the info I needed, but really didn't expect to get a response I needed so soon. I figured you all would help me out, not really the rental car guy. Instead I got a response by him in 15 minutes or so. In that case, I'll give him a plug since I'm so impressed! HI Mrs Whitefield - Liability is included by law in all car rental rates in the EU. Here are the details for your rental: Liability insurance: Included in all rates. Liability ins. coverage: Maximum of approx. EUR 8,000,000.00 for personal injury .Maximum of approx EUR 50,000,000.00 for property. Kindest regards, Andy B. Gemut.com Travel Services Tel. 1-800-521-6722, 1-541-488-8462, Fax 1-541-488-8468

Hi Susan and Monte, We used our AmEx card to rent a car for our last trip (Germany/Austria). They offer a "Premium Car Rental Protection" policy for 29.99 per rental period, up to 42 days. It covers a lot of potential issues that my MC or Visa didn't. https://www295.americanexpress.com/premium/car-rental-insurance-coverage/home.do?intlink=premiumprotecthub_hero_multiple_pcrp You can also read about AmEx's policy on the www.gemut.com website: www.gemut.com/car-rental/922-avoiding-unwanted-cdw-charges-on-european-car-rentals.html Paul
