Austin to Munich on AA

Wanting to use my AA miles to get to Munich in November and it looks like I can either take a 5 am flight to Charlotte and wait 8 hours for the flight to Munich, or take a flight to DFW then a flight to Charlotte to connect to the same flight. OR drive to DFW and take a later flight to Charlotte.
I am concerned about not getting any sleep the night before to get a 5 am flight and then having such a long layover. Thoughts?
Ever used the Charlotte airport minute suites?

So these are the choices ?

1- AUS-CLT-MUC--- depart AUS at 5AM

2- AUS-DFW-CLT-MUC ( Unk departure time)

3- DFW-CLT- MUC, taking car to DFW.

I think I would choose #2, based on the implication of your post that the AUS-DFW flight leaves later than 5AM Not so gruesomely early and does not have the problem of what to do with the car by driving to DFW ( although a one way car rental would be something I would look at depending what all the factors are with the other choices)

Not been to CLT

I'm guessing you can't book the AA/BA codeshare flight from AUS to LHR; and that you're trying to redeem miles with the Mile Saver option.

When I tried to make that same trip with AA miles, I ended up revising my vacation plans to fly into Paris and then spent one night there, before breaking up the train ride to Munich by spending a couple of nights in Strasbourg.

Have you tried calling AA? I've had good luck with getting a person to find better flights for me than what I can see online. If the first person isn't nice, hang up and call again. Repeat as needed.
