Hi all! I 'll be in Europe this summer, and I plan to spend 5 days in London and 5 days in Paris during August... I first thought that it would be ideal to try to have a weekend in each city (staying, for example, friday to tuesday in paris and wednesday to monday in london) because there are certain things you can only do on weekends, such as Portobello Road, Blick Lane and Borough Market in London, or stroll around Marais on a sunday in Paris... Also, I read that in Versailles there is a fountain show only available on weekends... anyway, then I started to think that maybe weekends are worst, because people who live in the city add to the tourists, so maybe everything is much more crowded... But I also read that in August Paris has less people because everyone's on holidays... I just don't know... Of course, I'll have to spend weekends somewhere!! but I may avoid weekend in one of the two cities (for example, mon to fri in Paris, and saturday to wednesday in London) Don't you worry about my other destinations, I can arrange that...
I'd love to hear your opinion on this... how are August weekends in Paris and London? what should I avoid? Thanks!!!
Mondays are the day to avoid in Paris if you're into culture, as a lot of museums and galleries are closed then.
Weekends are relatively dead in London in my opinion. There is so much to see in London that is better to see during the week. (eg St Pauls and Westminster Abbey).
When i lived in london, weekends were when I abandoned the city for some place in the country. Sundays especially are very quiet. Portobello road would not make up for it. Maybe the Museums?
