Yes, I think it is worth a stop. It is very "atmospheric," and the food was good. I think it can be appreciated as an interesting place to eat, even if you are not a Goethe fan ... I am, and it was definitely on my literary "bucket list." Enjoy, and hope you love Dresden and Bamberg, too ..... they are some of my favorite places in Germany.

I love Leipzig and think it's always worth a stop. The Auberbach Keller belongs to the must sees for its history and special atmosphere. But it might suffice to have a look around and then choose a different place to eat. It offers classic German food, not bad at all but rather average. If the weather is nice one of the many restaurants along Barfußgäßchen (the street between the old town hall and the St. Thomas church) could offer an interesting alternative where you can also sit outside and do some people watching while enjoying your lunch.

One more vote for Auerbachs Keller! You can kill several birds with one stone here - across the street is the Alte Boerse (sort of board of trade from a couple hundred years ago), the Alte Rathaus is opposite and the Nikolaikirche is a short block or two down the street and around the corner. There's a Moevenpick restaurant across the street from Auerbachs Keller and as the previous poster said, several more in the vicinity. The Thomas Church is also in walking distance, if you want to pay a quick homage to Johann Sebastian Bach.
