ATM card question

I know this topic has been beat-to-death, but I just received new debit Master Cards for use on our upcoming trip to Europe. Instead of the Cirrus or Plus symbol, it has "pulse" and "intercept" symbols along with the Master Card logo. Is anyone famiiar with this? Should they work ok in France & Switzerland?

You shouldn't have any problems. Once in a blue moon you will encounter an ATM machine that is only affiliated with Visa networks and vice versa. If that happens and your card is rejected just go to the bank across the street, and you'll be back in business.

Lisa, ATM's are like starbucks here in the states... they are everywhere. As Michael said, if you can't use one, cross the street and find another.

I would stick to the ATMs which are enbedded into the wall, and not the independent stand alone ones.

If you do want piece of mind, bring 2 ATM cards, one with a Visa and one with a MC logo.

Hey guys, all I was wondering was if the "Intercept" and "Pulse" symbols were o.k., since most postings here seem to refer to "Cirrus" and "Plus" and I wasn't familiar with these others. I didn't mean to start WWIII! I do have plan B & plan C, so I'm sure I'll be fine!
Thanks for your responses & relax!

Lisa, from what I can read, pulse and intercept are new networks with expanded features put onto ATM cards issued by credit unions and other smaller organizations to keep customers from going to debit cards from much larger organizations. Is your card a credit union card? I was reading information on Pulse and it only seemed to say that it was good nationwide. You need to call your provider to see if this card is good worldwide in the same manner that Plus and Cirrus are.

Larry,
I just checked with our bank (not a credit union, but a smaller local bank). The V.P. I spoke with said her husband travels extensively throughout Europe for business with this card and has never had a problem. She said there have been several mergers among these networks recently. Another employee just got back from Turkey and his worked fine as well. No fees, either! I will certainly have back-up, but I think I am fine...thanks for the response!

You answered your own question.

Because it's a debit Master Card, your card will be accepted at any ATM with a Master Card logo (almost every machine in Europe).

The other two symbols may be completely worthless in Europe but the Master Card network will work fine.

Lisa: I am relaxed, maybe too much caffeine but definitely relaxed and having fun. We Frequent Repliers actually like this stuff, that's kinda why we hang around here to answer your questions! One of the conditions of asking questions here (it's in the small font when you register) is that you occasionally have to tolerate Rants by Regulars. They have to let us have a little fun once in awhile, or we'd go elsewhere, and then where would you be? I highly recommend skipping the rants, if you don't find them inherently fascinating (except for mine, of course). But I took your advice--I did kinda hijack your thread, sorry--so deleted and reposted it under a more appropriate topic. And no, I'm not going to tell you which topic, if you want to read the rant again, you'll have to find it.
