ASUS customer service is horrible

I bought an ASUS 900 for a two month road trip in Europe, it actually performed pretty well during that trip and I wrote about it in my journal and previous posts here. When I returned home, it failed. Got a replacement which failed and another replacement failed as well. I'm now waiting on the fourth PC.

During this whole fiasco, I felt like I was talking to a bunch of high schoolers who had not developed their interpersonal skills yet, I was ignored, I encountered an uncaring attitude, I was promised things which didn't happen. When I called, I was transferred from one person to the next and sometimes the call was dropped.

Any time one of their people ran into wall or encountered something they hadn't been trained for, they just give up, they showed no initiative. Even though I asked and then demanded it, I was never allowed to speak to a supervisor.

They should be ashamed of themselves. I've since bought a Sylvania g meso, it's awesome and great for traveling, check it out.

Cheers,
Maggie

Maggie that's terrible. I was so impressed by the compact size and what seemed to be easy use when I was reading your journal, I had pretty much decided to get one for my daughter. Not now. They say if you have a good experiance with a company you tell one person. If you have a bad experiance, you tell ten.

Dell has recently released their own netbook called the Mini 9. I have had it for a couple months now and I'm very happy with it, excellent for travel: very solid build, compact (8.9 inch screen), and excellent battery life. Like all Dell computers you customize it to suit your needs, you have a choice of XP or Linux, and various hard drive/memory configurations. http://tinyurl.com/5vml69

I have an ASUS 900 as well. I haven't had any problems with mine but I did call customer service once. I was shocked they were in the U.S. and they were good about routing me to different people when a particular person didn't have an answer to my question. And my question was about third party software.

I got mine when it first came out. It was quickly replaced a few weeks later by the 901. If I had to do it all over again, I'd probably get a different brand.

I use it mostly for travel and emergencies...

If you don't mind the pda style the Nokia 800 and 810 with optional bluetooth keybaords are good as well. I still use a Nokia770 which can always be relied upon. Great thing is that they are very popular in Europe so it's easier to get warranty fixes, parts and the like.

I bought an Acer Aspire One mini-notebook a few months ago. I love the computer; it was great for traveling, but I always like to repartition my hard drive to put my data in a separate partition. That way I can back up my software, only, when I want to or my data, only, when I want to. This is not abnormal for a semi-geek, or difficult to do normally, but Acer comes with a hidden recovery partition, to save them supplying you with a recovery CD. I wanted to make sure I wouldn't lose the recovery partition when I tried to repartition the disk, so I called Acer customer service. They knew nothing about their own system and finally hung up on me when they couldn't find the answer to my questions. Despite taking my phone number and email address at the beginning of the call, they never got back to me.

In my opinion, Acer customer service is just plain incompetent. I guess now we have two.

Lee...ASUS and Acer are two different companies. The Aspire is by Acer. All of ASUS EEE models have numbers: 700, 900, 1000 series
