Arrivederci, Europa!

Our eight weeks in Europe has come to an end. We fly out of London tomorrow. We dubbed this the "Grand Fall Tour" and it has been grand! Amsterdam, München, our beloved Val Gardena, Venezia, Assisi, Le Marche, Piemonte, Paris, and finally London. No regrets, but we feel like we moved around too much even for two months. Hubby thinks 8 weeks a little long but is open to negotiation if we do not move around so much so next year: fewer stops, longer stays, i.e., a week minimum in a location. The final two weeks in London have been great even after having been here for three 1-week trips prior.

We cooked a lot when we had facilities and we resolve there will be no more week-long periods that are strictly in hotels. We just get tired of eating in restaurants. Nice to come back after a long day and eat simply, have our own bottle of wine, and also to make coffee ASAP in the morning!

We bought (and shipped home) only a few things: 6 liters of Umbrian olive oil, 6 bottles of my husband's favorite Italian grappa that is not available in the U.S., a few small items for Christmas stockings, some linens from the South Tirol.

We took about 1900 pictures and those are only the ones I downloaded to save!

Missing the cat tremendously. We've never been away from her more than 4 consecutive weeks in her 21 years. Anxious to wear some different clothes, too. I think I will burn the two pair of jeans I have been wearing.

I will write another trip report soon, for those who are interested. For now, arrivederci and thanks to all of you who helped along the way, whether you knew it or not. I still come to the Forum looking for advice and following others' experiences.

Now to start planning next year....

Thanks for your posts and trip reports, Laurel. I look forward to reading about your activities and observations. Here’s hoping you are in Portland sometime for the RS travel group, as I’d love to meet you sometime.

8 weeks sounds wonderful--I'll be especially looking forward to hearing more about your experience in Munich as I'm going there next spring. I know what you mean about wanting to wear other clothes--once I get home I usually can't even think about wearing those same tops and shoes again for a good month.

I have enjoyed your posts and "traveling along with you", Laurel. I'll be looking forward to your trip report. I know it was an amazing time and that length of stay is something I aspire to for myself! WOW-a 21 year old cat.......I am sure she (he?) missed you, too!

You are probably somewhere over "The Pond" as I'm typing this...✈️

Eight weeks abroad sounds like heaven, and I'm looking forward to the next trip report! The comment about torching your sick-to-DEATH-of-these jeans was the first good laugh of the day!

I am impressed that you managed to whittle down your pix to under 2000 over an 8-week period. Until she died, the best part of coming home was cuddling the cat. And I felt just about the same about my clothes after only 3.5 weeks.

Then, isn't it great to sleep in your own bed again!!

So glad you had a good trip (mostly) and that the experiment into long holidays back here worked for you.

Shame that you and your young (in spirit) pussycat had to be so far apart....

We always miss the dogs when we are gone. We got home last week after a three week trip, including the RS Sicily tour. It was an amazing trip and we loved every minute......but there is something about being home in the PNW.

Thank you, everyone! Slept in our own bed last night, kitty cuddled up too. Although we were up by 4:00 am (!) it was delightful to go out and breathe the fresh coastal air and see the billions of stars thanks to living in a rural area. Ahhhh, home!

Now to plan the next trip!
