My husband and I will have two days to spend traveling between Rome and Venice in October of next year. What are some unique towns or areas that we would enjoy visiting? We love art, architecture, cuisine, culture, history, scenic beauty. Thank you!
Florence checks all your boxes and has good connections with Rome and Venice. You might want to look at the Italy links under "Explore Europe" on this website, along with a map.
Bologna is good for just two days, and it is a short train ride from Bologna that will break up the long train ride to Rome.
Bologna and/or Ravenna.
Florence definitely! Buy tickets for the Uffizi Gallery two months out to guarantee a reservation. Afterwards visit Michelangelo’s David at Accademia. No need to buy tickets beforehand because the line moves fast.
We visited both Bologna and Siena earlier this year; I can wholeheartedly recommend both.
We enjoyed spending time in Orvieto (with stops at Sacro Bosco and Civita di Bagnoregio on the way), Florence (with side trips to Siena and Pisa), and Verona, between our stays in Rome and Venice.
I would also agree that Florence checks all your wishes! It was one of our favorite cities where we started a tour of Tuscany many years ago. It was a great introduction to everything Italy.
